Fishing Info | Salmon fishing in Campbell River

Campbell River, located on Vancouver Island’s central east coast, has long known as the “Salmon Capital of World”. The waters of Campbell River’s Discovery Passage and Johnstone Strait between the BC mainland and Vancouver Island, geographically funnel the salmon right by Campbell River as they migrate south.

All 5 species of Pacific salmon pass through this area between May and October on their way to their native rivers to spawn. The opportunity to catch all 5 species of salmon is something many other fishing areas just can’t offer. While salmon fishing in Campbell River, we use downriggers with light tackle. The waters surrounding the Campbell River area are very sheltered and offer calm seas for anglers not interested in the big water that is often found at other fishing locations on the BC coast. There is no ocean swell, a common cause of sea-sickness, which makes for a very pleasant and easy fishing trip. Fishing in Campbell River is a great option for a family group or more mature anglers still looking for quality fishing adventure.
