Fishing Info

Campbell River, located on Vancouver Island’s central east coast, has long known as the “Salmon Capital of World”. The waters of Campbell River’s Discovery Passage and Johnstone Strait between the BC mainland and Vancouver Island, geographically funnel the salmon right by Campbell River as they migrate south.

All 5 species of Pacific salmon pass through this area between May and October on their way to their native rivers to spawn. The opportunity to catch all 5 species of salmon is something many other fishing areas just can’t offer. While salmon fishing in Campbell River, we use downriggers with light tackle.

The waters surrounding the Campbell River area are very sheltered and offer calm seas for anglers not interested in the big water that is often found at other fishing locations on the BC coast. There is no ocean swell, a common cause of sea-sickness, which makes for a very pleasant and easy fishing trip. Fishing in Campbell River is a great option for a family group or more mature anglers still looking for quality fishing adventure.

At Chromer we’re known for hooking up our clients with the best fishing trips and the most experienced fishing guides in British Columbia. With a huge wealth of combined coastal experience, friendly personalities and top of the line boats & equipment, Curtis and his team are no doubt Campbell River’s finest. It is best summed up by Curtis who says, “We pride ourselves on our collective coastal fishing knowledge, and will use this knowledge to guide you to an experience of a lifetime. FAQ's

What about fishing licenses?

You will need a fishing license. Licenses are very affordable and are priced based on if you’re a canadian resident or not. To keep salmon you will also need to include a pacific salmon stamp. All anglers 16+ years need a license.

Where do I get a fishing license?

Upon booking we’ll send you a link to the government website that sells licenses. Print it off and bring it with you for your day of fishing. It’s really easy to do and takes less than 5 minutes.

What happens to the fish we catch?

Guides will clean, fillet & bag all your fish for you to take home and enjoy. If you’d like to have them vacuum packed, frozen or boxed for transport there is a small seafood shop in Campbell River that provides all those services.

Are there bathrooms onboard?
