Mid July - late September
Summer Fly Fishing Trips
Summer brings warm days and cool water, when the Chromer guide team heads to smaller streams chasing rainbow and bull trout. During odd years, strong runs of pink salmon also enter the lower Squamish River. More on our guided summer fly fishing program below.

Summer Window
If you've been reading through our website you've probably figured that we're very transparent about what we offer. There's times of year that we can offer some epic fishing and experiences. Summer months are the trickiest of our year, the reason being is that river levels aren't always optimal. The summer heat in BC melts the snow pack and that drains into the rivers. Late May through early July is when we see our highest river levels and its not a great time of year to visit us unfortunately and we usually pause operations. But from mid July to late September we're fully operational and ready to welcome you to our smaller streams and some epic pink salmon fishing on odd years.
Logistics for Your Day
A Summer Day Rundown
Your day starts by meeting your guide in Squamish, BC, then heading out with us to explore the small, easy to wade rivers that we've spent over 20 years guiding on. We offer a variety of trip options, though full-day and half-day trips are the most popular in summer. Drift trips are subject to conditions and we generally don't do any drifts until mid August. Meeting us directly in Squamish is the best way to maximize your fishing time. Transportation from Vancouver can be arranged if needed, though we don't offer pickup from Whistler. Most trips begin around 8:00 AM, with slightly earlier starts if we're forecasting a scorcher! We'll let you know the start time and meet location upon booking.
What to Expect
This isn't Yellowstone
We like to be upfront about what our trips are - and what they aren't. If you're chasing big fish numbers like you might find on a blue-ribbon stream in Montana, this probably isn't the right fit. Our local rivers aren't home to massive trout populations, and most summer days you'll see a handful of fish, not dozens. What we do have is a fantastic guide team that works hard to put you in the best possible water, give you every opportunity we can, and make the most of the day. If you're keen to explore, spend time with an awesome crew, learn a few new tricks, share some laughs, and enjoy the experience for what it is, we've got you covered.
Fun Fact
The Stawamus Chief is the giant 710 meter-high monolith that looms over downtown Squamish. The Chief is a very popular place for rock climbers and the second-largest granite monolith in the world.

We Swear We Didn't Write These
Pink Salmon
Unlike other Pacific salmon that have a four-year life cycle, pink salmon have a two-year life cycle. Pink salmon in Squamish return to the rivers only on odd years, (2027, 2029, etc). The fishing we enjoy for pink salmon is at its peak from early August to mid September. This is a fantastic time for a trip with us, soaking in the sunny days with plenty of action.
Squamish Attractions
Many of our guests in the summer months are visiting British Columbia on holiday. If that's you, then a trip to Squamish can check a lot of boxes, not just fishing. You can go hiking, ride the gondola, hit up a brewpub, feel the spray of Shannon Falls or look for whales in Howe Sound. A trip to Squamish will keep everyone happy, and you can sneak in some fishing.
River Conditions
The rivers we fish are free flowing wild rivers. There are instances when river conditions aren't optimal for a safe and fun trip. This happens if there are multiple days of heavy rains or freezing levels spike high. Don't worry, communication for us is key, we'll give you as much heads up as possible if there is a likelihood river levels won't be good. Trips cancelled due to weather or water conditions are fully-refundable or we can get you rebooked, your choice.
