January is a tough month in BC for fishing, temperatures are cold, rivers are low and options are definitely limited. If you’re looking for a winter steelhead trip then we surely have some credible options, including trips to Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island. These are not weekend-warrior friendly though, they’re more geared towards ardent anglers looking to brave the elements in search of a winter fishing thrill. Here’s some options for a January fishing trip…
Winter in Whistler isn’t all about skiing, there’s some really good fishing to be had as well. The most popular is a trout trip to the Squamish River, about 45 minutes south of Whistler where temperatures are significantly warmer and fishing is good.
There’s often some good chinook salmon fishing to be had right from Vancouver. Wintering fish feed on stacked bait and it’s also a great time to drop crab and prawn traps!
For serious steelhead anglers there are options in Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island for winter-run steelhead. Vancouver Island is a popular destination in January, with early season fish rolling in to local rivers. Keep in mind timing these trips can be finicky, but if you hit it right fishing can be lights out!
Getting anglers like you into first-class fishing trips is what we’ve done for over a decade.
We look forward to earning your business.
