Bulkley River packages include seven (7) nights lodge accommodations, 6.5 days of fully guided fishing (2 anglers per boat), meals, alcohol and ground transportation.

TRAVEL TO SMITHERS BC
Packages are offered from early September to late October each year. There are only 8 weeks of operation at the lodge with a maximum of 12 guests per week. This is a very limited offering and a much sought after experience for steelhead anglers from around the world. Packages operate from Saturday to Saturday. It is suggested you arrive in Smithers the day prior to your trip, we can help with hotel arrangements for that Friday night. A lodge representative will pick you up on Saturday morning to begin your trip. You will be fishing that afternoon after getting settled in at the lodge.
There are daily flights from Vancouver to Smithers on Air Canada. Flying time is about 90 minutes. Flights depart from Vancouver International Airport’s domestic terminal. If you are traveling from outside Canada you can connect easily or overnight at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport Hotel, located in international arrivals at YVR. Flights are pre-trip accommodations are not included.

WILD STEELHEAD ON THE FLY
The Bulkley is one of the most famous steelhead rivers in British Columbia, home to tens of thousands of returning wild fish each year. If there was ever the perfect steelhead fishing scenario the Bulkley River fits the bill with consistent numbers of fish, angler friendly river conditions and scenic backdrops that showcase the wild beauty of British Columbia from every angle. Bulkley steelhead average in the 8-15 pound range with bigger fish in the 20 pound class certainly a possibility. The Bulkley River steelhead are well known for their love of skated dry flies in the August and September. As we move into October most fish are taken on swung wet streamers. You’ll be fishing different sections of the Bulkley each day of your trip, utilizing jet boats to cover as much water as possible and gaining access to prime sections upstream of Smithers. The Bulkley is a very angler friendly river, a great option for first-time to BC steelhead anglers with long sweeping runs and relatively easy wading. You’ll enjoy three and a half days of guided fishing on the Bulkley.
FISHING THE MORICE RIVER
REMOTE WILDERNESS FISHING
The Morice River is the main tributary of the Bulkley, originating from Morice Lake. Fishing the Morice is a huge reason why this is such a well-rounded and popular BC steelhead package. This is the only lodge on then entire Morice and because the relatively difficult access the river gets very little angling pressure. It is a remote river that offers enormous amounts of untouched water and excellent steelhead fishing. You’ll spend three days on the Morice, fishing more than 50 miles of this beautiful river. The lodge is situated in the middle of three unique beats, you’ll fish a different one each day. Travel from the main lodge on the Bulkley to the Morice River camp is included in the package. You’ll leave early in the morning from the Bulkley for the 1.5 hour drive to the Morice headwaters and fish the full day. This is a relatively small river with lots of water for swing streamers and skating dry flies for wild steelhead. Jet boats are used for access, wading is easy and it is rare to see another angler during the day.

The main Bulkley lodge is located on a large piece of private land right on the banks of the river. Newly built in 2010, this is now the pinnacle of steelhead lodges anywhere in British Columbia. The main lodge building houses a comfortable lounge, dining room, open kitchen and bar area. Watch the cooks prepare fresh meals, put your feet up in the lounge and enjoy a cocktail or three after a day on the water. From the Smithers airport, the lodge is only about a 20 minute drive and airport pickup and drop-off are included in the package.The lodge has a capacity of only twelve guests at a time, ensuring an intimate environment and personalized service.

FISHING THE MORICE RIVER
The second part of this program is on the Morice River where you’ll stay at a boat-access only lodge on the upper Morice. The Morice River is the upper Bulkley River, or the headwaters of the Bulkley. This trip will give you the most full access of the Bulkley, there is not other package that gives you this kinda of package or gives you access to the upper Morice Lodge. The Morice River outpost is a comfortable wilderness lodge with small cabins located on the upper Morice River. In total you’ll spend 3.5 days on the Bulkley River fishing out of the main lodge and 3 days fishing out of the satellite Morice River Lodge. The Morice is a special part of this program, putting you into an incredible remote part of the upper Bulkley Valley, a place accessed by very few anglers.

WHAT TO BRING ON YOUR TRIP
Most of the steelhead fishing done in BC is with 2 handed spey rods. A 7-8 weight is a great rod, up to 13 feet. No need for anything bigger than that. A variety of sink tips is critical, Type III & VI are our go to tips and MOW tips fish nice as well. Upon booking you’ll be sent a detailed list of what to bring, licensing instructions and more. Classified waters licenses and steelhead conservation licenses are required on this trip.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR FISHING THE BULKLEY?
The Bulkley has a relatively short season, with the first steelhead entering the system in early/mid August. The best time for fishing the Bulkley River is early September to late October.
ARE TRIP DATES PRE DETERMINED?
Yes, Bulkley packages run from Saturday to Saturday. You must arrive in Smithers on the Friday before your trip. You can fly back out on your departure Saturday.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED?
Not included are airfare to Smithers, pre/post trip accommodations if required, fishing licenses and guide/staff gratuities.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE CATCH RATE?
It really depends but on a good day you can encounter 2-4 fish. This may be simple grabs or landed fish. Minimizing fishing impact is a part of all our guided programs.
IS THIS PACKAGE SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS?
It is suggested that you have at least some previous two-handed or steelhead fishing experience. This will allow you to make the most of your trip and your time.
ARE SOLO ANGLERS WELCOME?
Yes, there is usually space for solo anglers over the course of the season.
HOW DO YOU GET TO SMITHERS BC?
There are daily flights from Vancouver to Smithers operated by Air Canada. Flying time is about 1.5 hours and flights usually cost between $500-$800 return per person.
HOW MANY GUESTS PER WEEK?
It is very limited with only 12 guests per week at the lodge. This number is split between the lodge on the Bulkley and the lodge on the Morice, so there is only 6 at each.
