FAQ’S ABOUT OUR COURSES

ANSWERS TO YOUR FLY FISHING QUESTIONS

Here are some answers to the questions we get most often about our lessons…

DO I NEED ANY FISHING EXPERIENCE?

Absolutely no experience necessary. You can come not knowing what end of the rod to hold and we’ll have you casting like an all-star by the end of the day. Our courses go over fly fishing gear, finding fish, casting instruction, on-the-water safety and much more. If you have some experience this is fly fishing course will hone your skills and make you a better fly angler.

DO YOU TEACH CASTING?

Of course, teaching people all about casting fly rods is a big part of the day.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO LEARN DURING THE DAY?

We jam a ton into 4 hours. You'll learn basics about fly fishing tackle, you'll learn how to cast, you'll learn about river etiquette and fly fishing techniques used here in the Pacific Northwest.

WHAT DO WE BRING AND WHAT DO WE WEAR?

Bring some clothes as if you were going hiking. Some warmer socks are nice when you’re in the water casting and some lightweight pants are best underneath the waders we supply you. Layering is key to being comfortable on the water, so a fleece top with light wind/rain jacket is a good combo. You’re welcome to bring food and drinks (no alcohol).

Can we do some fishing as well?

Our courses are on the river with licensed guides, so you can do some fishing as well for sure!

ARE THE COURSES COVID SAFE?

Courses are instructed outside in an outdoor setting. Social distances are kept between members and all gear is sanitized before and after use. We make these courses as safe as possible.

ABOUT OUR COURSES

LEARN ALL ABOUT FLY FISHING

Our on the water courses are focused on getting students dialled when it comes to fly fishing in BC. There is a lot to learn but our course will teach you everything about river fishing and more. You’ll learn not only about fly casting, but also how to read a river to catch more fish. Special techniques to catch trout, salmon and steelhead are also covered.
Classes are held on the Squamish River north of Vancouver. You don’t need any gear, courses include all wading equipment and fly gear. If you’d have fly fishing equipment of your own and want to learn how to use it then you’re welcome to bring it. Courses begin with a detailed overview of flyfishing equipment we use in BC.
These are small group fly fishing classes, so you can count on plenty of personal instruction. We do also offer private courses if you’re more comfortable with a private class.

Steelhead Fishing Course

Looking to up your steelhead fishing game? We’re happy to focus on some steelhead education as well. We always bring two-handed spey rods to our courses. You can also check out our Spey Casting Weekend Course, those are great for more serious spey anglers.

LEARN CASTING IN A DAY!

TAUGHT BY OUR FLY GUIDES

Learning how to cast a fly rod shouldn’t be intimidating. Our awesome crew of instructor guides will make sure you have a comfortable day of learning even if you’ve never picked up a fly rod before! There are two types of casting, single-handed and double-handed. Our river courses focus on single-handed casting. This is the most used fly fish technique for trout fishing, lake fishing and fishing for pink salmon.
We’ll also cover lots of fishing techniques, making you a better angler. This can be helpful to all levels of fishers and a reason why even those with intermediate flyfishing knowledge will benefit from these courses.

RIVER SAFETY

When you fishing it is important to always be mindful of safety. When you are fishing in wild areas safety should be a focus and our classes cover river and wading safety. This is a vital component of our freshwater guiding program and something we feel is important to teach.
