RIVER SALMON FISHING IN OCTOBER
On the south coast of British Columbia, closer to Vancouver, there is always very good river fishing for salmon in October, targeting mainly chum and coho salmon, our BC Fall Salmon Packages will put you into the heart of the best river fishing around. You can travel further, but you won’t find any good salmon fishing that late in northern BC or the Interior. Best to stick with BC’s south coast and rivers near Vancouver like the Harrison, Vedder, Fraser or Squamish for October salmon fishing. If you do want to go a little further you can head over to Vancouver Island but there isn’t any real benefit in terms of fishing. River salmon fishing is dependant on river conditions. Lower water will make for tougher fishing, as will really high water which happens sometimes on heavy rain events. Good river levels and clarity are key to a successful October river fishing trip.
IS THERE SALTWATER SALMON FISHING IN OCTOBER?
There is a bit of saltwater salmon fishing in October but most charter operators and definitely all the lodges have all but wrapped up for the season. The majority of salmon in October have migrated into coastal rivers, leaving a void for ocean fishing. We do have some saltwater salmon fishing near Vancouver available but hitting the rivers is usually a much better bet this time of year. Saltwater fishing won’t really pick up again until mid November, when the opportunity to target Winter Chinook Salmon presents itself.
