Bulkley Steelhead Fishing

Last 2019 Spot! Prime Time Bulkley River Steelhead Trip

If you’re a solo angler looking for a superb BC steelhead fishing trip this Fall we have a spot for you!

October 12th – 18th, 2019

At Bulkley Base Camp, the ultimate remote river steelhead fishing trip on the Bulkley River. Why only one spot? Well, a long time client of ours had to bow out of his space for the year and it is up for grabs.

Bulkley Base Camp only operates 8 trips per year with a maximum of 6 anglers per trip, so getting a prime spot is difficult to say the least. This mid October date is when river conditions are usually very favourable and when the majority of summer-run steelhead have entered the lower Bulkley River canyon. Here is our full webpage on the Bulkley Base Camp if you’d like more details.

Where is the Bulkley Base Camp?

The Bulkley Base Camp is located in the heart of the Bulkley River canyon, down river from Smithers British Columbia. You will fly into Smithers and be picked up for transportation to the camp. The location of the camp gives you access to wide expanses of the lower Bulkley River canyon, an area that see’s very limited angling pressure, in some sections you’ll have fresh water to fish all day long!

The Base Camp Itinerary…

The Bulkley Base Camp program runs from Saturday to Friday.  You’ll have to fly into Smithers on the Friday (October 11th) before your trip commences. We will arrange hotel accommodations for you that evening, included in your package price. On Saturday your guide will pick you up and you’ll be fishing that day. Subsequent days and nights are spent at the Bulkley Base Camp, fishing the lower Bulkley River for wild summer-run steelhead. On Friday (October 18th) morning you will be driven to the Smithers Airport for your flight back to Vancouver. Upon booking we will send you detailed flight information to make your booking easy.

Fishing the Bulkley River

The Bulkley Base Camp program gives you six full days of guided fishing on the Bulkley River. There are only six anglers per week at the camp, you’ll fish with another solo angler in a shared jet boat. All fishing is done by jet boat, giving you unbelievable access to a huge amount of river sections. Steelhead in the lower Bulkley River canyon come to play, they climb on flies and pull hard. Overall size of fish is generally a bit bigger in the canyon sections as well. Skate dry flies or swing wet ones, it really doesn’t matter, the fish here see almost no pressure, one of the truly magical parts of fishing this section of the Bulkley River.
