26 Aug The 5 Best BC Fall Fishing Trips
Some of the best fishing opportunities in BC happen in September, October and November each year. If you’re looking for a fun Fall fishing trip to British Columbia, we have you covered, with multiple fishing options, including freshwater and saltwater trips. Here are our Top 5 Fall British Columbia Fishing Trips, some close to Vancouver, some a bit further, but all guided and all offered by your friends here at Chromer Sport Fishing…
Pink season started a bit late this year, so we should be enjoying a solid pink salmon fishery all the way into later September. As I write this in late August we have chrome bright fish coming in daily, many with sea lice on them, so that bodes well for September pink salmon fishing on the Squamish River.
This is a super fun fishery, Pink Salmon average 5-8 pounds and where we fish for them is super close to the open ocean, so they’re shiny and bright and crush pink coloured flies. September fly fishing for Pink Salmon is something all ages and angler abilities can enjoy. We fish lighter rods to swing flies for these feisty fish, sometimes have 10 to 20 plus fish days!
This is a super easy BC Summer fishing trip to enjoy. Our guided Vancouver fly fishing trips include pickup right at your hotel or residence, or if you’re staying in Whistler or Squamish we offer transportation from those spots as well. Need fly fishing gear? No problem, we’ll outfit you with everything you need for a day of Pink Salmon fishing and our expert guide staff will make sure everyone in your group has a super awesome day on the water, enjoying some of the most epic Summer time fly fishing British Columbia has to offer. For more info check out our Guided Vancouver Fly Fishing Trips page and be sure to watch our Squamish River Pink Salmon Fishing vid which is there too.
Within an hour of Vancouver you can be fishing on wild rivers for chrome bright chum and coho (silver) salmon. Prime dates for our Fall Vancouver fly fishing trips are mid October through to late November, during that time we offer guided day trips and multi-day packages.
Generally we fish the lower sections of the Squamish River system, this area gives us access to fresh salmon coming off the open ocean, meaning they love to crush flies and pull hard. We stay away from spawning fish and respect them as they make their journey upstream. These are mainly fly fishing trips, but we can also accommodate conventional gear anglers. This experience is well suited to anglers of all abilities, but moderate and above experience levels generally get the most of the experience. We also have areas we can fish for resident bull trout through the Fall and Winter months.

Don’t be fooled into thinking Summer is the only time that is great for sturgeon fishing in BC. Our Fall sturgeon fishing program on the Fraser River will put you into the heart of the Fraser River Canyon and tied into some of the biggest fish on the planet! September, October and November are all solid months for Fraser River sturgeon fishing, with October & November usually being two months were we see a proportionate number of bigger fish being caught.
Getting to the Fraser River is super easy, it’s only 90 minutes from downtown Vancouver. You can choose a day trip, or a multi-day sturgeon fishing package. Book with Chromer Sport Fishing and get hooked up with the hardest working guides on the Fraser, we have an incredible crew that are on the river year-round. If you’re in search of a more involved BC fishing trip, a multi-day adventure into British Columbia’s Skeena River region might just be the ticket this Fall. The Skeena River, home to a strong population of wild salmon and steelhead, is a mecca of sport fishing in September, October and November.
The lodge program at Skeena Spey is second to none, a flexible BC fishing package that will give you access to a variety of wild rivers, including the famed Skeena and Kalum rivers. Packages are all-inclusive and getting there is easy, with multiple daily flights from Vancouver to Terrace, BC.
If you are indeed interested in a world class steelhead experience you can learn more at our Skeena River Steelhead Fishing Packages page and drop us a note for details, pricing and availability.
There’s a little place, that few know about and even less get to experience. The lower sections of the Bulkley River area accessed by only the most experienced oarsman and guides, opening up a paradise of fly fishing for wild bright summer run steelhead.
The Bulkley Base Camp, hidden away in the deep canyons of the lower Bulkley River offers six day packages into the best steelhead fishing water found anywhere in the world. Fully guided, this is a super limited offer trip, with only six guests per week through September and October. Interested in some dates, drop us a note and we’ll send you current availability or get you on a VIP wait list for the upcoming season.
Have a look at our Bulkley River Steelhead Base Camp page for more information and photos, this is easily the most popular BC steelhead trip we offer for good reason!
All of BC’s saltwater salmon fishing lodges have wrapped up operation by mid September, so if you’re looking for a saltwater salmon fishing trip in British Columbia you’re a bit out of luck. There are some charters available on BC’s south coast, Vancouver Island and Vancouver, but by late September saltwater fishing has slowed down. This happens as migrating salmon move into their coastal rivers to spawn.
Don’t fret though, if you’re looking at this it means there is plenty of time to plan an incredible 2020 saltwater trip for you and your group. The ultimate BC salmon fishing experience is at Langara Island and we’ll be happy to help you find some prime spots for the 2020 Summer season.
